Can love truly be colorblind in the face of societal scrutiny? Join us as we navigate the turbulent waters of Jonathan Majors' legal controversies and the subsequent reactions to his interracial relationship. We unpack the societal and cultural pressures that come with being a pivotal black figure while engaged in a romance that some deem controversial. The spotlight intensifies as we assess the responsibility of public figures like Majors to their community and culture, especially when their personal choices ignite debate. This episode doesn't just skim the surface; it probes the depths of public opinion, legal disparities, and the intense magnifying glass under which we place our celebrities.

Prepare to have your perceptions challenged in our candid discussion about the role of mental health in the African-American community, particularly among men. We take on the media's portrayal of celebrity domestic issues head-on, comparing the fascination with Rihanna's everyday life to the starkly different treatment of John and Grace Jabari's distressing relationship. By confronting the often-sidelined topic of men's mental health and the biases that skew public narratives, this conversation sheds light on the essential need for empathy and a more supportive approach to addressing all forms of abuse. We're not just talking about the glitz and glamour; we're getting real about the struggles and triumphs of those in the limelight.

Outro Lyrics

It’s Medium Ghetto

And we thank y...

Speaker 1:

He was trying to get his Coretta. Yes, he wanted his Coretta.

Speaker 2:

He wanted to be great and do great things.

Speaker 1:

For the culture Leave.

Speaker 2:

You know what bothered me about that.

Speaker 1:

What's that?

Speaker 2:

How are you trying to do things for the culture with a white lady? White people kill their spouses at alarming rates. Nobody talks about that. That's true. Every other episode on the ID channel is somebody trying to kill their spouse for whatever reason. Welcome to Taken it where we talk about what has people upset on the internet. This week everyone is upset about Jonathan Majors conviction Partial conviction.

Speaker 1:

I think he's just getting in trouble for running away from the white woman.

Speaker 2:

Well, how dumb is that. I mean it was the 1800s.

Speaker 1:

Was it the 1800 or the 1600?

Speaker 2:

I don't forget Well when you put yourself in 1800 situations.

Speaker 1:

It happens. But none of y'all know who Jonathan Majors is. He played in Lovecraft Country, ant-man 2 and Creed 3. And Dr Umar was upset at him already for dating a white woman, but after his latest release from a white woman, I think he might be happy. But other than that, today we're going to be chatting about some of the interview. We're going to summarize the interview and talk about some of the things that stood out to us and some quotes as well and some of the top moments and even comments. First was this relationship and then personal impact. Majors talk about his relationship with Jabari, his effect on his life and not being able to see his daughters and feeling of responsibility and bravery until this story Meaning like he felt, like you know, speaking his truth, was brave about how he wanted to break up with this woman and how the relationship was not healthy. Like what. Did you think about that?

Speaker 2:

This fool was cheating, knowing damn well he shouldn't have been with an old white lady, and he was cheating and he got caught and then it snowballed from there.

Speaker 1:

So he snowballed with a snow bunny on what a black one.

Speaker 2:

Now he gets the W of the year award.

Speaker 1:

The year just started, man.

Speaker 2:

Too late. Maybe 2025 will be his year.

Speaker 1:

And he got. You know what's crazy. He got caught on camera and he denied this.

Speaker 2:

So they didn't catch him like hitting her, though.

Speaker 1:

No, he didn't catch him.

Speaker 2:

I mean, I don't think he hit her, I think he did all the hitting, just like they said.

Speaker 1:

She thinks she hurt herself.

Speaker 2:

Yes.

Speaker 1:

So why do you think like you think? Girls often do it?

Speaker 2:

She was mad because she saw I want to kiss you or something on her man phone.

Speaker 1:

I mean, it wasn't her man Apparently it was her man.

Speaker 2:

They was in the car together. It was her man.

Speaker 1:

That's crazy. Well, it was delicious, if that is, uh, it's not important in this but also impacted his health, his, uh, his mental health and I only know was like panacea. It's part right. He was talking about how he he was open about his suicide attempts and how he felt suicidal since his childhood. I don't hear anyone talk about this man's mental health.

Speaker 2:

That ain't got a damn thing to do with what happened in that.

Speaker 1:

His mental health was recorded Show for the car. Maybe he couldn't think straight.

Speaker 2:

His mental health wasn't suffering when he was texting whoever that was in his phone.

Speaker 1:

I don't think that's the point. I think this is the point that they're trying to run another black man's life.

Speaker 2:

We did it to ourselves. Man, can I get the world's smallest violin?

Speaker 1:

But you got dropped from Marvel. Yeah, it was crazy. Who, who played a great role though.

Speaker 2:

He did.

Speaker 1:

Um, who else? I don't think it's fair as a black man that we have to like, we can't do anything like something. One bad thing happened bad relationship, bad break up this is normal. Why would it? Why does his whole career got to be changed from one breakup? How many people you know get into fist fights with? There's an African other out here.

Speaker 2:

Not that many. They begin fist fights well, they're not famous and they don't be in fist fights with you know people who are highly protected as far as Society goes what you mean.

Speaker 1:

Wow, how's she highly protected.

Speaker 2:

I'm saying you can't be famous and then be out here fist fighting with a white lady. That's true.

Speaker 1:

Like it was a black woman, you think it'd be different?

Speaker 2:

I feel like this would have played out almost. We just watched Johnny Depp and Whatever her name is Go through a whole case where they was pooping on each other's beds and all types of shit.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, I remember that and they went to court.

Speaker 2:

They talked about fighting Whatever shit and biological warfare, all types of stuff, horrible things. They did to each other, and Johnny Depp, somehow, was the victim in all of it.

Speaker 2:

You know, just show man man right and Everybody wanted her career to get ruined, which I mean it kind of mostly did, but she's still got to keep her part in Oppoman. So they were in a relationship and they were both shitty to each other. So they both, you know, get off with their whatever that Public gets to choose who they want to deal with and who they don't. But then in this situation when it's two people who are being credit to each other, same thing same.

Speaker 1:

Thing.

Speaker 2:

She didn't even got, she got charges there.

Speaker 1:

Yeah or not, like why did they throw all the charges for her and he's Again?

Speaker 2:

we live in America, so you have to act accordingly. I'm sorry you are in your 40s. You should fucking know that by now it's it's 2024 at this point it's not. You've seen it happen to other men, so I don't know why you would like willingly put yourself in that position. You like chose every single day here, we heard him. We heard the audio of him telling her what he needed and what he was trying to do.

Speaker 1:

He was trying to get his caretta.

Speaker 2:

Yes, he won his caretta. You want to be great and do great things for the culture leave. You know about me, about that.

Speaker 1:

What's up?

Speaker 2:

How are you trying to do things for the culture when away, lady?

Speaker 1:

That's why he was trying to leave, otherwise he would have just left. That's why he was thinking about being good with miss good too late. And you gather right.

Speaker 2:

Yes, that's good, see I don't know why she's on them I. See about that beat captain, see when they get whatever that's his career and get this career skates.

Speaker 1:

Scott's daughter. It's very upset about the comments about that being his career. For, yeah, she upset like she does not want her, her mom's, name to be used as as like a prop.

Speaker 2:

No, it is that I wouldn't want that either.

Speaker 1:

So like why are they doing?

Speaker 2:

it. I don't know what my mom went through.

Speaker 1:

Exactly.

Speaker 2:

Well, I guess. Well, it's fitting because he was cheating and we all know dr King did plenty of cheating back in the day, so he did. That's what Jonathan majors wants somebody to stick by his side.

Speaker 1:

We always cheese, but he seems like such a great guy he thinks of that. What's his name? That other guy who would be sent them Do this is the other guy with played in Creed.

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah he's the one who probably got him into the milk club.

Speaker 1:

I believe it.

Speaker 2:

I know he milk if I'm your number one.

Speaker 1:

You see that video of him hugging that woman.

Speaker 2:

Miss.

Speaker 1:

Becky, we go, we go break out to this, right? This is the comment we heard. This is bars, right? One guy at high life workout said I was reckless with their heart. I bars. That's the only crime. John the major. What did? He? Admitted to that he was reckless with her heart and that's all that matters no comment no comment you want to be poetic during the interview and stuff. Well, let's talk about this race and legal system. How does the race impact outcome of legal proceedings?

Speaker 2:

It just shows you the black and white difference. How will you just watch a couple go through a crazy thing with their relationship Nobody went to jail and then Now he possibly can serve a year. For what?

Speaker 1:

for cheating Ridiculous a year for cheating is crazy. It definitely has me like people will be in on. Next will be in jail for cheating.

Speaker 2:

You got caught cheating, she beat you up and then you had to run away and now you gonna.

Speaker 1:

You ran how many blocks? A lot, you're like two blocks.

Speaker 2:

He ran a marathon after that. That was a shitty day.

Speaker 1:

Like the bull off a us. What's us? You heard that the bull that was just ran like this not us.

Speaker 2:

That was a get out.

Speaker 1:

He was but um.

Speaker 2:

He was running. I didn't see him running, as I pace it like walking fast.

Speaker 1:

Hmm.

Speaker 2:

I didn't see him full sprinting.

Speaker 1:

He was full spraying man and he hit the turn. That old man, his brain was hype. He could run again this is run.

Speaker 2:

I love it.

Speaker 1:

What it's that? Oh, let's go back to the race thing. This is one thing that caught me on. They were a white guy was chatting online about this. He was talking about like the difference like with some gun violence in schools. He said 90% of shootings are white kids in high schools so and he was like and they call it a mental health crisis, right.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

But when they killed the black panther, they called it done control.

Speaker 2:

We live in America. That's your only excuse on yes, everything is set up against us. One thing, the same exact thing, is two different things if it's happening to black people, if it's happening to anybody else.

Speaker 1:

How so sway?

Speaker 2:

I'm saying Majority of all crime is committed against someone of the same race, yet no one else has a color on color. Crime isn't for us.

Speaker 1:

No, white on white. No, puerto Rican, puerto Rican no.

Speaker 2:

Why people kill their spouses are alarming rates. Nobody talks about that, that's true, and we have the episode on the ID channel. Is somebody trying to kill their spouse for whatever reason?

Speaker 1:

Hey why won't you just get a divorce? My fact divorces because of money. Understand why they try. All right. To what extent should celebrities be held accountable to the public eye versus the legal system?

Speaker 2:

Well, when you want to be famous, you have. Everything that you do is in the public eye. So I mean You're just lending yourself to the court of public opinion.

Speaker 1:

Hmm, I think, like you have familiarity of who you are, you literally can't get away with them. People are constantly watching you. They are used to watching you. If you've seen a celebrity you know was a celebrity just picking up grapes she probably watching pick up greats William they ayo is that reanna picking up grapes?

Speaker 2:

I would watch reanna do anything see, exactly.

Speaker 1:

So he watched the John of a major you like. Oh, that's how the major beating up his girl. He didn't beat her up allegedly I'm joking, but he tried to throw it back in the car Whoa, which was yeah, it was, but I mean she deserved it. Like yeah, yeah, he tried to run off, he tried his best to run off away from her.

Speaker 2:

Don't put your hands on people. I was ran off. You know we he black and in a shape, he can run faster her if she scratched the back of her ear in the car, it was over too late. Yeah, it didn't matter what he did after that. He never should have been with her in the first place. That's it.

Speaker 1:

He already said it was a toxic relationship. Yeah, he should have been running out, alright. So how mental health issues received the address within the African-American community is particularly among men. How are they perceived? Like his whole suicide, alright. So I forgot what day it was. It was no more, it was um, it was no, it's no, was it November? So what November is is about mental health for men and every type of health for men and.

Speaker 1:

No one I heard no one care at all about men's mental health. I don't think many people care about men's mental At all like he, if he's got suicide issues of these old, if he stressed I who cares about that to the point where he slept everything on his night, stand down and like I'm sorry for slap everything my night should stand down but I know that caring about your mental health is very, you know, on trend lately, for good reason, but in my experience it's Mainly women who spend you know every day or you know make intentional moves to help with their mental health.

Speaker 2:

I feel like a lot of issues with mental health in men is other men and and their attitude towards being better.

Speaker 1:

You think like it's like men just making it a fact. Environment to talk about the feeling spirit. It's a self-inflicted woman, Unfortunately you don't think they're gonna be perceived as not being good enough to lead in a family if they talk about what's wrong with them.

Speaker 2:

They there are, the majors can get therapy.

Speaker 1:

Okay, you know, forget the best therapy with that buddy.

Speaker 2:

So yeah, I'm not saying therapy solves all of your problems, but you know these like a stigma. No, no, no, no again With men. Maybe, I don't know, I don't be a part of all your conversations. But you're encouraging each other to handle your problems, then you're all just part problem, hmm, I think it was to Jabari problems and support his mental health.

Speaker 1:

That's why he was trying to go back and good. Well, you look like she'd be supporting a man's mental health over there.

Speaker 2:

I'm sure that's when he was trying to convey, when he was, you know, telling her that I'm doing great things. I'm trying to do great things, trying to be part of this. I'm a great man and I need a great woman on my side.

Speaker 1:

Yeah you're not pulling your weight and she, proud, was like well, this is all I got.

Speaker 2:

You got taken out, or leave me Right, I got, leave you well, he did, and apparently that was in September, so there was no months later they was messing around.

Speaker 1:

All right. So like how does media coverage influence public perception of such incidents?

Speaker 2:

like how does the media well, because they can show One side more than they showed other side.

Speaker 1:

No, I think that they they aided her, and more so on her side.

Speaker 2:

Everything was on her side from beginning.

Speaker 1:

This is a little America. So what you getting that?

Speaker 2:

well, now I'm just saying like yeah, I rest it, she didn't get arrested that's true because of perception. I called the police.

Speaker 1:

And if media is perceiving it as him yeah, how the hell. You call the police, you get arrested.

Speaker 2:

He called the police to report that she was unresponsive in their apartment and that's how the whole thing started.

Speaker 1:

You think she did it to herself.

Speaker 2:

She did, she scratched her ear. That party then too.

Speaker 1:

Hmm, yeah, they probably for DNA, like in between his nails, probably there, right? So what about her mental health?

Speaker 2:

Because clearly some wrong where she was laying on the floor in the closet, whatever else it was. When you got home, what were you doing? Well, I guess you just saw her boyfriend was texting somebody else, so she's probably very upset. So he was talking about mental health, what about? Hers. You think about her mental health when you was texting?

Speaker 1:

mmm. Let's talk about some quotes though.

Speaker 2:

Okay.

Speaker 1:

Let's talk about physical violence. John the major said he never hit a woman. I've never my, I never fit. My hands have never struck a woman ever.

Speaker 2:

He did.

Speaker 1:

He did, either he was lying.

Speaker 2:

No, I don't have any reasons to believe he was lying about that.

Speaker 1:

There's plenty of guys who never put their hands on the ground and you also said, quote unquote, one's relationship with Grace Jabari. Our relationship was not healthy, but there was no abuse.

Speaker 2:

Well, I mean, there might not have been any physical abuse, but they can mentally abuse her. Definitely they mentally abused each other.

Speaker 1:

All right, yeah, I love this quote. Again, I was reckless with her heart, not with her body. Next one If you watch those videos and you saw a black man chasing a white woman girl the white girl down the street, that man is going to be shot and killed in the streets in New York. So if it was on the other foot, he believed he would have got shot and killed.

Speaker 2:

And and he's right and I believe that he knew that three years ago and a year ago and Earlier that day and when he asked her out on a date the first time.

Speaker 1:

Hmm, so you already knew what it was yes. And look at my greatest fear, that my greatest fear of being a black man in America calling 911 came true. They call 911, you got arrested boo fucking.

Speaker 2:

Who Like?

Speaker 1:

so you saying this is all be, this is okay because it's you already knew what it was. Dating a white woman, I Mean be like Omar Johnson. You take a white woman, you better, you better prepare for jail man. Oh my God.

Speaker 2:

So many times like be for real, be for Jonathan. I'm talking to you now. Be for real. How many of us Supported you all these years? Oh, we stuck by a side. Before Maggie was there, you had a gajillion Karethas. Who did you choose? I love you. I love you. I mean, whatever your name is one of the Kennedy ladies. So all of us are like, well, you know, you get what you ask for. You could have had anybody. I don't know any black man that would have said anything bad about Jonathan Majors a year and a half ago.

Speaker 2:

Love and supported everything he did.

Speaker 1:

You think he should have dated someone more. Who is this?

Speaker 2:

lady. Anyway, what did she do, grace?

Speaker 1:

DeBurre.

Speaker 2:

I had no idea.

Speaker 1:

What's her relevance? Faking a straight white woman on the fucking?

Speaker 2:

street. I think she worked in the Ant-Man movie with him or something.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, I think they said something like that, yeah.

Speaker 2:

But anyway. So you know, black women are a little bit tired of boosting people's careers and telling everybody about how great they are. And yes, look at this Another beautiful black man coming up in Hollywood.

Speaker 1:

And tore down.

Speaker 2:

He just said, he was just peeking too, he was. Like who supports Lovecraft Country the most Us?

Speaker 1:

But here's the thing we definitely do. That's why I turned it off. These black women show it was better than power.

Speaker 2:

It was better than anything.

Speaker 1:

It was good and it was creative.

Speaker 2:

Seeing them, I was like it's good Eating and smashed every week, Mm-hmm, it was a fever dream. And then there's Jonathan Majors and his muscles there Every step of the way.

Speaker 1:

Damn, I can't believe the muscles thing. I think you and my opinion you always wore tight shirt. You were very sure, but this part of the job, I guess I was part of the pill.

Speaker 2:

And then he started peeking. And then what do you do? Pull a tie, reese Things a fucking lot.

Speaker 1:

I forgot my question with that one. All right, but do you think kids deserve a shot in Hollywood?

Speaker 2:

Absolutely.

Speaker 1:

Because you know you probably won't get another shot in Hollywood. I think that's the.

Speaker 2:

I think that was such a loaded question.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, you should get one. Why shouldn't he not? And why would you assume he's not going to?

Speaker 2:

get a shot in Hollywood. Disney might be done with him, but I don't see why anybody else would. Unless he ends up trying to do it, then he's probably definitely going to do it.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, you know, Disney teaches you how to be desperate for white women.

Speaker 2:

Like you could be like Tim Allen. It served jail time beforehand, but not during your time that you're famous Absolutely not. So hopefully he doesn't get any jail time or anything like that If he doesn't deserve anything he doesn't.

Speaker 1:

He doesn't deserve any time. It's crazy If you get anything pay a fine.

Speaker 2:

Right, he had to do like community service out of women's shelters.

Speaker 1:

He can't go to a yoga class for the next year or some shit Like anywhere. Like you can't go to a Kroger's or yoga class next year. Like keep him away from the community. A white woman Like do something with that. You know, I love to go to. No Lulu lemons.

Speaker 2:

No.

Speaker 1:

No no no. White people like Panera bread. No Panera bread. No Panera bread, no, expensive. That's a soup kitchen. It's an overpriced soup kitchen with smoothies.

Speaker 2:

But anyway, I hope he bounces right back, I hope he gets to do more movies and surprise us and impress us forever.

Speaker 1:

Absolutely. I hope everything goes well with him and his angel.

Speaker 2:

Yes, yes, hopefully she puts him on the right track for a long time, because she deserves some peace too. Let's be firm.

Speaker 1:

Thank you guys for watching. Smash that like and subscribe button and please comment on what you liked about that episode. What were your thoughts? Really appreciate you being here. Happy late night.
